Are you moving soon? Do you have questions about your upcoming move? One of the most frequent concerns from clients is whether movers can handle the disassembly of furniture. Can movers disassemble all types of furniture, or are there limitations? Good news: the answer for us is a YES. Our experienced movers are well-trained in disassembling and reassembling furniture with care. However, some types of furniture are more commonly handled than others.
Let’s examine a typical moving day. When our team enters your home, we are ready to face various challenges, such as handling heavy boxes, navigating through stairs, delicate packing, and, of course, furniture disassembly. In fact, almost 99% of the jobs we handle require some form of furniture disassembly. Below is a breakdown of the most common items we handle and a few pieces that may need special attention.
Bed Disassembly:
The most common piece of furniture movers are asked to disassemble is the bed. Disassembling a bed is second nature to our team. However, the time it takes depends largely on the type of bed we are working with. For a basic bed frame, we can usually take it apart in as little as 5 minutes. But for more complex frames—such as bunk beds or bed frames with storage drawers—the process may take longer, sometimes up to 30 minutes. Our movers encounter all sorts of bed types on a daily basis, but no matter the complexity, rest assured that we will safely disassemble and reassemble your bed with care.
Dining Table Disassembly:
Dining tables are another frequent disassembly job. A dining table must be taken apart in most cases because it’s too large to fit through a standard doorframe. Some dining tables can be disassembled easily, but there are exceptions. Tables with heavier materials, such as marble tops, might require extra hands—sometimes up to three movers—to handle the disassembly safely. If you’re unsure whether your dining table will need special attention, send a photo and description to your moving representative. We’ll let you know what to expect.
Baby Crib Disassembly:
Baby cribs are another common item that movers encounter. Like dining tables, baby cribs typically don’t fit through standard doorways without some disassembly. Our team understands the importance of safely handling your baby’s crib, and we take great care to disassemble and reassemble it correctly. Whether it’s a simple crib or one with more intricate parts, we are equipped to manage it. You can trust us to ensure your child’s crib is securely reassembled in your new home.
Desk Disassembly:
Desks are familiar territory for movers, but they don’t always require disassembly. Many desks are designed to fit through standard doorways, so we can often move them without taking them apart. However, if the desk is large, awkwardly shaped, or has attached shelving, we may need to break it down for safe transport. Regardless of the situation, our movers are skilled at quickly assessing whether disassembly is necessary.
Wardrobe Disassembly:
Now, let’s talk about wardrobes—specifically wardrobe furniture from brands like IKEA for example. This type of furniture is often tricky. Many wardrobes are designed to be assembled once and left in place. Moving them, especially disassembling and reassembling them, can be risky. A common problem with wardrobes is the backboard, which often becomes loose with time, causing the structure to become unstable. When moving a wardrobe, we’ll try to transport it in one piece whenever possible. However, disassembly might be required if it doesn’t fit through the door. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to guarantee that the wardrobe will be fully reassembled at the drop-off location due to the delicate nature of this furniture, and not to mention, that it is time-consuming.
Items Movers Don’t Typically Handle:
While our team is highly skilled in disassembling most household furniture, there are certain items that we do not specialize in. These include pool tables, pianos, safes, and other heavy or bulky items that require specialized equipment for transport. Moving these items can be complicated and risky without the right tools, so we recommend contacting a specialized moving service for assistance.
If you have new furniture that needs assembly, please inform us ahead of time. Our movers are experienced in assembling common items like beds, dining tables, cribs, desks, and more. Need your TV unmounted? No problem—our team can safely handle that too.
