1: Plan ahead

Packing in preparation for your next move can be a lengthy and stressful process. We suggest packing as soon as possible. If you are hiring a moving company, we suggest booking at least a month ahead. This ensures that your moving day will be reserved. It also allows you plenty of time to pack your belongings at your own pace and to ensure that you are prepared for your big move!
**Please keep in mind that summer is the busiest season for movers and booking can be a challenge, especially if you have limited availability. Booking in advance can be incredibly helpful in these situations. If you decide to move on your own, we suggest booking a rental truck in advance. Keep in mind that availability for rentals varies, so be sure to give yourself enough time to lock in that rental before your moving date. If you rented a truck online, be sure to call the company you booked with to confirm that the vehicle will be ready for you on your moving date.

2: Pack as much as you can

You can potentially save both time and money by ensuring that all of your belongings are already packed and ready on the day of your move. Many moving companies charge by the hour so the less time they spend packing, the more time they can spend loading the truck with your belongings. Label your boxes as to where they belong at your new location. Do not forget to label boxes containing fragile items and draw arrows if you wish to keep a box with a certain side up. Ensure a safe and accessible space for yourself and your movers by having your belongings organized on the day of your move. By organizing your belongings you also allow the movers to determine the order in which to load items onto the truck with ease. This can reduce the time spent on your move.
Keep in mind that movers work with tools such as dollies and four-wheels which require enough space to be able to load and transfer bulky items, boxes, etc. If you will be tossing unwanted furniture, consider donating them, or contact your local junk company. Movers do not always offer assistance with junking; therefore, we recommend having a backup plan established with a junk removal company.

There are several things that can go wrong when it comes to your movers finding parking on the day of your move. Don't worry! Some issues are avoidable.

When it comes to moving, it is unfortunately not uncommon for clients to expect their movers to double-park outside of the pick-up and drop-off locations. This can result in hefty tickets from parking enforcement. In the event that this happens, the moving company will add the ticket dues to your final bill, potentially increasing your subtotal by several hundred dollars. This situation can be avoided by ensuring that there is adequate parking available for your movers on your moving date. It is also recommended to find parking close to the pick-up and drop-off locations to reduce the time and labor spent on transferring your belongings from the unit to the truck. This is another way to also potentially reduce the total moving cost due to reduced time.
